Youth Trips

Our Youth Empowerment Program brings youth from across the USA for faith, service, and action. HHRD provides youth a unique opportunity to receive firsthand knowledge of relief work through emersion and internship programs.

Currently, we have three major programs that allow youth to experience humanitarian work: Our Summer Internship Program offers interns to opportunity to spend their summer working alongside our professional staff learning different aspects of the fundraising and in-kind process. Our Youth for Pakistan, Youth for Jordan and Youth for Africa Programs provide a week-long, a life-changing experience, seeing humanitarian work in action.

HHRD is truly fortunate in being able to provide this unique avenue for fostering a new wave of humanitarians, social activists, and philanthropists.

HHRD Regional Director for North and South Carolina, Talha Javed accompanied by HHRD Africa Regional Director Musa Ibrahim, guided the group as mentor and shared the activities of each day along with heartwarming pictures.

Day 1:

- - Each participant paired up with an orphan for the day
- Activities were riding bikes, lunch, and visiting the Dead Sea
- Impressed by the amount of respect and hospitality the orphans gave

Day 2:

- Visited the HHRD Jordan office and Skills Development Center
- Listened to a presentation by Regional Director Sh. Yaser Alkhooly
- Visited the cave of the 7 sleepers and were fascinated of the history and preserved artifacts
- Visited an orphanage to play and spend time with the children

Day 3:

- Visited Al-Mafraq refugee camp were many have been living in tents for the last 8 years
- Installed bathrooms with clean water, replacing their previous makeshift bathrooms
- Distributed food packages which included rice, sugar, oil and more
- Visited a mobile school sponsored by HHRD and distributed school supplies and hygiene kits

Day 4:

- Visited the Palestinian Gaza camp in the city of Jerash
- Visited and spoke with families, and helped renovate a home
- Played soccer with orphans
- Visited the historical Roman ruins in Jerash

Day 5:

- In Al-Mafraq gave micro-homes to refugee families living in tents
- Listened to their stories of problems they have with disabilities, work, poor tent conditions and more
- Distributed food packages and soccer balls to children who were excited to play
- Held a last meeting with reflections of the week and received small gifts from the Jordan HHRD staff

Youth for Pakistan Sisters’ Trip Highlights: This time the sisters’ group was accompanied by Helping Hand Arizona Regional Coordinator Gul Siddiqi and HHRD Chicago team member Reem Safadi.

Day 1:

- - A total of 23 sisters from across the USA arrived in Jordan for the Youth for Jordan Program

Day 2:

- The sisters were partnered with an orphan for the day
- They went to the Dead Sea and had a great time
- The orphans had plays and activities setup after the excursion

Day 3:

Day 4:

- Visited a school and distributed school supplies
- Visited Al-Mafraq refugee camp and spent time with the kids and families
- Distributed food packages, toys, and hygiene kits
- Delivered 8 bathrooms in an area that previously had bathrooms made of sticks and cloth

Day 5:

- Visited many areas in Al-Mafraq
- Delivered a learning center for children who have gone without an education for years
- Delivered micro-homes for families living in tents for almost 8 years

Youth for Pakistan Brothers’ Trip Highlights: Youth Empowerment Program Director Qasim Mazhar, accompanied by world-renowned comedian Jeremy McLellan, shares the activities of each day along with heartwarming pictures.

Day 1:

- Visited slums of Islamabad to see reality of those living in poverty and assess their needs
- Set up Mall of Humanity In Kind Gifts distribution
- Set up School of Humanity for children to enjoy games and craft while parents shopped
- Visited HHRD Warehouse for In Kind Gifts

Day 2:

- Spent day in Mandibahauddin, a village in Northern Punjab
- Visited Skills Development Centers where we teach four useful skills to the local women in the area so that they can earn an income for their families.
- Visited a water well at a local school
- Spent time with 30 of our sponsored orphans and did activities such as painting, arts and crafts, and learning about the 5 pillars of Islam.

Day 3:

- Visited Helping Hand Institute for Rehabilitation Sciences in Manshera. This 45,000 sq ft complex houses teaching, research, and operation of peoples with disabilities.
- Spent time with 150 of our sponsored “Children With Disabilities”.
- Met the courageous team that helps to rehabilitate them from physical and mental disabilities.

Day 4:

- Visited sponsored children in their homes in Chakwal, met Talha who as a baby had no control of his body and couldn’t even hold his head in place and now he’s sitting up and walking on his own after his rehabilitation.
- Took part in a Medical Camp where some of our youth interacted with the patients and even performed check-ups.
- Held banquet for HHRD sponsored Orphans and Children With Disabilities. The youth then spent the day playing games and competing in different activities.

Day 5:

- Youth For Pakistan Brothers’ trip comes to an end.
- Spent the day with sponsored orphans in Murree

Youth for Pakistan Sisters’ Trip Highlights: This time Youth Empowerment Director was accompanied by Helping Hand USA Orphan Support Program Lead Ramika Shuttari.

Day 1:

- Held “Mall of Humanity” and distributed clothing items to more than 300 local needy families.
- Visited the HHRD Islamabad head office for an introduction and orientation

Day 2:

Day 3:

- Visited Helping Hand Institute for Rehabilitation Sciences in Manshera. This 45,000 sq ft complex houses teaching, research, and operation of peoples with disabilities.
- Spent time with 150 of our sponsored“Children With Disabilities”.
- Conducted home visits to check up on progress of these children

Day 4:

- Took part in a Medical Camp where some of our youth interacted with the patients and even performed check-ups.
- Held banquet for HHRD sponsored Orphans and Children With Disabilities. The youth then spent the day playing games and competing in different activities.

Day 5:

- Youth For Pakistan Sisters’ trip comes to an end.
- Spent the day with sponsored orphans at Faisal Masjid.
