The Digital Sisterhood is partnering with Helping Hand for Relief and Development to sponsor 4 washroom stations for young school girls in Kenya and Somalia. Young girls face numerous obstacles in their pursuit of education, with one of the most significant being the lack of access to proper hygiene and washroom facilities. Despite the fact that access to education is a fundamental human right, many girls are unable to attend school due to the absence of basic sanitation infrastructure, which is essential for maintaining health and hygiene.
Proper washroom facilities will empower beneficiaries to take charge of their own lives with dignity and determination. Providing proper hygiene and sanitation practices is a crucial step towards enabling these girls to attend school with dignity, confidence, and uninterrupted academic progress. Access to washrooms can help girls overcome one of the biggest barriers to their education and set them on a path to a brighter future.
The Digital Sisterhood (TDS) is a start-up that aims to unite Muslim women globally by highlighting the importance of cultivating their own spaces, creating their own content and being the authors of their own stories. Their goal is to counter the pre-existing narrative on what it means to be a Muslim woman in the world today. Through digital storytelling, they hope to empower a generation of women to unapologetically be themselves, as well as inspire them to foster a strong and unwavering relationship with Islam.
Helping Hand USA currently supports washroom stations in Kenya, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda and Pakistan. Sanitation is a catalyst for good health and the provision of proper washrooms in Africa and beyond can help to reduce the risk of diseases and sickness. At Helping Hand USA, we believe in enabling young girls to attend school with good health and a greater chance for academic success, one washroom at a time.
