Emergency Appeal:An estimated 1 million people across East Africa have been affected by severe flooding due to heavy rains causing families to abandon their homes in hopes of seeking higher ground. Already being labeled as ‘the worst flooding in a life time’ by several relief agencies, the danger of another down pour threatens the region.

Helping Hand USA has launched its “East Africa Flood Relief” fund to provide emergency assistance to flood affected families in Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Your support will help families receive clean drinking water, medication, nonperishable foods and tarpaulins.

Countries Affected: Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania

HHRD Africa team members are conducting needs assessment while providing humanitarian relief to flood affected families in East Africa. Your $135 donation will give over 15 days’ worth of food along with plastic utensils, mosquito nets, bars of soap, and chlorine tablets to clean water for a family of 6.

Situation on the Ground: The International Rescue Committee expects 4 to 6 weeks of rain in Somalia, South Sudan and Kenya. Access to victims is extremely limited with submerged roads and bridges preventing the provision of much needed aid.

Your support is a welcomed relief to families who have lost their homes and livelihood. In Somalia over 547,000 people have been impacted of whom 370,000 are displaced, crops and livestock have been destroyed and the death toll continues to increase.

In Kenya, 38 people have lost their lives, flash flooding has caused mudslides and landslides in various counties affecting over 100,000 people. The UN has shared the devastating news of entire communities being submerged, limited access to health care and the spreading of water borne diseases. HHRD Africa through its Emergency Response program has intervened in by providing food and non-perishable items to the affected families in Marsabit (Moyale) and Tana River(Bakuyu) counties. The community appreciated the intervention and prayed for the donors.
