Every 3 seconds 1 person becomes forcibly displaced. Forcible displacement due to persecution, conflict, violence, and human rights violations have devastated the lives of 79.5 million people.
Since 1978, the Rohingya have faced decades of systematic discrimination, statelessness and targeted violence in the Rakhine State, Myanmar. August 2017, ushered in the largest and fastest refugee exodus into Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh where an estimated 745,000 Rohingya reside in what has become the world’s largest refugee camp.
With an uncertain future, the Rohingya remain in an extremely perilous situation. These refugees remain tremendously vulnerable, living in exceedingly challenging conditions, and dependent on aid for their survival.
A devastating fire broke out at block-H of Rohingya camp no-1 located at Lombashiaghona in Cox’s Bazar Bangladesh on May 12, 2020 resulting in around 100 makeshift houses being gutted and a total of 600 makeshift homes being destroyed. Screams and shouts resonated throughout the area as an already struggling Rohingya refugee community sought safety. HHRD worked with vetted partner NGOs in the area to provide emergency relief to those affected.
HHRD has been assisting the needy in Myanmar since 2008 and scaled up its assistance during the August 2017 mass migration. Through the Rohingya Relief Fund, and with the help of vetted partner NGOs, humanitarian assistance has been provided with the deployment of several Emergency Response Teams from the USA as they conduct needs assessments.
