Indonesia Earthquake Relief

Helping Hand USA, through our vetted partner NGOs, has begun disaster response reilef distribution of essentials items for families suffering in the aftermath of the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that  rocked the West Sulawesi province of Indonesia on Friday January 15th, 2021 killing over 92 people and injuring over 3,000. An estimated 28,000 people have been temporarily displaced in 10 evacuation shelters.

Intervention in West Sulawesi by HHRD

HHRD USA’s experienced and vetted partner NGO has sent in team members, who with the help of local volunteers are coordinating with authorities in the search and rescue efforts. Within 36 hours, they will deploy a water and food kitchen center with phone charging stations. The situation continues to remain extrememly urgent and dangerous as authorities search for individuals lost within the rubble. Families have become homeless overnight and are left with nothing but the clothes on their backs. 

Immediate Need For: ready-to-eat meals, staple food distribution, clean water provision, tents and canvas, facemasks, and much more. 

History of Earthquake Recuperations Efforts in Indonesia By HHRD


In 2018, HHRD responded to two massive earthquakes that hit Sulawesi by meeting the needs of children, the elderly, and earthquake victims with the help of local vetted partner NGOs. In the immeidate aftermath of those earthquakes our teams and volunteers helped authorities and local officials provide much needed food, shelter, water, and medicines to the victims. Now once again, we pray that with your assistance HHRD can continue similar efforts for the latest victims of the earthquake in hopes of securing safety and nourishments for families in need. 

Situation on the Ground

Per the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), heavy destruction has been reported in the City of Majene, including a five-story Mitra Manakarra Hospital, where several people are trapped inside. Also damaged are the Governor’s office, two hotels, a mall, a community health center, and over 300 houses have sustained losses. Initially the earthquake temporarily interrupted electricity, communications networks, and fuel supplies. The situation continues to remain active and everchanging. Within the next few weeks the long term damages will be known and HHRD will be present to provide necessary programs and projects to ensure families regain a sense of normalcy. 

HHRD Work in The Region



HHRD operates several programs in Indonesia through partner NGOs, such as Orphan Support, Water For Life, Water And Sanitation Hygiene, and seasonal projects for local Indonesians and Rohingya Refugees. Since 2009, HHRD has intervened in six disaster relief efforts. In 2018 in Sulawesi, HHRD over 2,000 families (10,000+ people) through immediate relief items, shelter homes, washrooms, and water supplies.
