Emergency Appeal: Government officials in Venezuela are relying on the international community for increased aid amidst the threat of a refugee crisis that may rival the size of Syria’s. Early numbers estimate roughly 5 million refugees leaving the country as a humanitarian crisis is underway.

Helping Hand USA has launched its fund for “Venezuela Relief Fund” to provide emergency relief items such as food, water and shelter to families in need in Latin America And The Caribbean (LAC). Our reconnaissance team, with the assistance of local contacts, is in Peru conducting needs assessments.

The search of affordable nutritious food is a primary reason for this exodus as 14% of children under the age of 5 face malnutrition. The South American country of Peru has become a refuge for an estimated 2 million Venezuelans who seek safety and security. Civil unrest, poverty due to sanctions, an unstable government, and illegal mining have increased poverty causing families to seek refuge in neighboring countries.
