The 5.6 magnitude earthquake that shook the Cianjur district of West Java on November 21, 2022 has claimed over 300 lives, many of them children, and injured over 2,000. The country is prone to seismic and volcanic activity due to it being located on the Pacific Ring of Fire where tectonic plates collide. Widespread damage has been recorded with 62,000 homes destroyed and 73,000 internally displaced.

Since the earthquake in 2009 HHRD has been working in the region and is providing programs through vetted partners which include: comprehensive rehabilitation (wheelchairs), education and orphan support, Ramadan and Qurbani for locals and Rohingya refugees, skills development trainings, and water projects. More recently, HHRD provided emergency intervention in the January and February 2021 earthquakes.
