Helping Hand for Relief and Development

The recent surge in violence against the Rohingya minority in Myanmar has caused global concern with the rising death toll since the crisis began in 2012. Rohingyas have fled the region of Rakhine with hopes of finding safety in the neighboring areas of Myanmar, as well as the countries of Bangladesh, Thailand, and Indonesia.

Situation on The Ground

This is a silent genocide where the UN calls the treatment of Rohingyas 'textbook ethnic cleansing.' The country of Myanmar (Burma) is in Southeast Asia and has been marked by one of the longest running civil wars between ethnic groups. More importantly, 1.1 million Rohingya Muslims living in the Burmese State of Rakhine have faced apartheid like conditions since 1942.
