Success Stories
Shaheena is the volunteer group leader of Industrial Home (IH) (UC-7 Rawalpindi).She joined IH in the month of May 2010. Before joining, she taught in school where she earns Rs.2100 per month. Shaheena is 51 years.

She is a widow and has six daughters. Her husband died in a traffic incident ten years ago.

  After his death, "I was the only breadwinner for my family "She said. This tragic incident put Shaheena under immense work load that deteriorate her health. She takes homeopathic medicines which she cost Rs. 20 on daily. Even in such circumstances she worked late night and stitch clothes to save some money and marry her daughters. She rented her house portion on Rs. 3000/ month. With all this income, she fulfills the basic needs of her family.

HHRD team survey the region for the start of industrial Home (IH) and visited UC-7 the area where majority of people are facing lot of problems and have less means of earnings. HHRD team heard about shaheena skills and economic conditions and contacted her.


She was introduced with the HHRD Industrial Home project and she showed interest in HHRD Industrial Home project and voluntarily offer her house room for IHs. She also mobilized seven skilled female for IH.
After joining the HHRD, IH (Rwp), she was able to increase her monthly income by stitching of cloth in IH.she is earning PKR 3000 monthly and she is hopefully for further improvement in her progress. “My income raised rupee 2000 to 7000 per month she praised”.

She need more orders and interested to have skill development center to earn more and save some money for her younger daughter marriage.

Program Introduction
Skills Development Program

Skills Development Program is designed for the socio-economic development of people especially women from vulnerable and disaster hit communities. Program embodies with the approach to eradicate poverty among most neglected segment of the society by providing them employable skills, facilitation for home based income generating activities and developing market linkages. The vision of "One Home One Skill" of the program is to sustain the livelihood of every household in adopted UCs.

Goals and Objectives

Eradication of the poverty through enterprise and skills Development
  To impart training in employable skills to vulnerable male and female focusing on "One Home One Skill".
 To develop indigenous handicrafts by establishing industrial homes and to promote local products through Value chain development.
  To build the capacity of potential trainees and develop market linkages for the sustainability of community livelihood.
  To prepare trainees and artisans for a social change in the community through moral education and developing social values.
Skill Devlopment Centers
HHRD has established community based SDCs for imparting trainings in different employable skills for females of vulnerable communities of Pakistan and Azaaad Jamu Kashmir.

Industrial Homes
HHRD is working to convert all the SDCS into Industrial Homes forming groups of women artisans in each SDC to promote the concept of "one village one product".
