Water And Sanitation Hygiene (WASH):

25% of the country was affected during Pakistan Floods. Water borne diseases were rampant and there is shortage of clean drinking water in many Union Councils. WASH ensures safe drinking water as per standards set by the Union Council across Pakistan.


Water for Life:

Improves access to clean drinking water through installation of hand pumps, water filtration plants, construction of tube-wells, water wells, water storage tanks, and water supply schemes to meet basic and livelihood needs.


Awareness:

Moreover, HHRD hopes to create awareness about proper sanitation, and hygiene practices and to construct proper sanitation amenities. Access to clean drinking water is critical to achieve Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Recent Water Emergency Response: Pakistan Flood Relief
In July, flood water damaged clean drinking water sources and left thousands of people at risk. Since then our focus turned to restore and rehabilitate the destroyed drinking water sources in flood affected areas.

 

 Hygiene Kits :
To combat the spread of water born diseases in flood affected areas hygiene kits were distributed among 500 families (3500 individuals). Hygiene Kits include washing and bath soap, teeth cleaning sticks (miswak), towels, razors, combs, nail cutters, cotton rolls, aqua tablets, ORS and SODIS bottles(used to purify the water through sunlight).

Awareness Sessions:
Sessions on health and hygiene awareness were held. It helped affected communities to understand disease prevention possibilities through adoption of simple hygienic practices. Benefitting over 4000 flood victims.

10,000 Aqua-Tablets:
In three flood-affected union councils of Charsada (KP), to purify water, 10,000 aqua-tablets were distributed to 500 families (3,500 individuals).

Adopt a Village Program:

    33 water filtration plants and 220 boreholes were installed.
    1,100 hygiene awareness sessions were conducted in 11 adopted union councils.
    4 water filtration plants were installed by December 2010 -three in Charsada and one in Nowshehra (KP), and two hand pumps in Charsada. The water filtration plants have the capacity to provide 200 gallon/hour ultra filtered water. Donate Generously.

International Water Conference 2010:
Raising awareness among the international community towards Water Shortage and Sanitation issues. A '2-Day International Conference' to "Save Water, Save Life" took place on Islamabad (Pakistan).
150 participants including prominent scholars and professionals from the United States, Indonesia, Nepal and Pakistan shared their knowledge and experiences to brainstorm the resolution this critical issue.
